Bon Secours Hampton Roads Celebrates American Heart Month

According to the American Heart Association (AHA) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, heart disease is the leading cause of death in both the world and the United States, taking the lives of more than 375,000 Americans each year. Because of these alarming statistics, the AHA designated February as American Heart Month to raise awareness about heart disease and how people can prevent it.

This month, the Bon Secours Heart & Vascular Institute is challenging Bon Secours employees and all of Hampton Roads to take the first step toward heart health through self-awareness, education, prevention and early diagnosis.

The Heart Check Challenge offers four easy opportunities to assess risk and learn how to lower it:
1. Take a free online HeartAware Assessment
2. Schedule a heart scan ($59 special in February)
3. Register for a free heart screening
4. Download the free heart healthy e-cookbook

What many people do not know is that heart disease does not have to be permanent; there are numerous ways to halt its progression or even reverse it. Visit heartcheck757.com for full details on the challenge.
